Former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Bethel Amabebe, was, Friday night, killed in an auto-crash along the Amassoma road in the Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that the deceased, an All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, governorship aspirant in 2007 polls, was coming from Angiama when he met his tragic end.
Sources said one of the tyres of the vehicle in which the deceased was travelling pulled off while on speed causing him to lose control and ran into a ditch.
He was a member of the ANPP until after 2007 when he decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party and was appointed as commissioner for sports in what was described as Government of Unity.
The late Amabebe later adopted Governor Timipre Sylva as consensus candidate in the rerun governorship election ordered by the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt which nullified Sylva’s election.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Eguavoen Emokpae (ASP), confirmed the sad incident.
