UGHELLI—A frontline member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Delta State governorship aspirant, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the party, saying that the party lacks internal democracy.

Omo-Agege, in the letter to the National chairman of the party, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo,  obtained by Vanguard, yesterday, said, “I write to notify you of my resignation as a member of the PDP, effective from today, November 1, 2010.

“The decision to resign my membership was taken after a wide consultation with my supporters from all the different political strata across Delta State in view of the rancour and crisis rocking the Delta State chapter in particular and the entire party in general.

“When I took up the membership of the party in 2002, it was with the belief that the dream of the founding fathers of the party would find accommodation in good governance, internal democracy and the delivery of democratic dividends to our teeming masses, who gave the party their overwhelming support.

“Sadly, these dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers have been eroded over the years by abuse of due process, godfatherism and indeed intolerance of opposing views in line with the spirit and intendment of true and participatory democracy,” he added.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Omo-Agege political family, yesterday, told Vanguard, that  Omo-Agege is heading for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said Omo-Agege would formally join the ACN on Saturday, adding that he was crossing to the party with all his teeming supporters.
