‘Nwodo has betrayed Niger Delta People’

By Emma Arubi
WARRI-NIGER Delta youth activist, Comrade Omolubi Newuwumi, has carpeted the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okwesileize Nwodo, for what his call a ‘double edge sword’ stance on the issue of the zoning.
Omolubi who spoke in Warri, Delta state in the aftermath of the zoning controversies which has pitch the northern politicians against their southern opponent, says the PPD chairman has betray the Niger Delta by saying that zoning in the PDP should remain but went ahead to tell Jonathan Goodluck to contest.
“I felt betrayed by the PDP national chairman, Chief Nwodo when he took a resolution in his NEC meeting that zoning should remain at one edge of the sword and at the other end wanted Jonathan should contest, that to me is double edge sword that will eventually cut one of the resolution out.
“The sword is so sharp that it will surely cut one resolution out, when he said zoning should remain, he should have understand the modalities that surrenders the zoning formula in the party vice-versa the issue if the where the president must come from which was paramount, where 42 strong leaders of the party were signatory to.
The PDP Chairman cannot tell me that he did not know that the zoning decision was a resolution and therefore the decision becomes bye-law which means that it is constitutional and as far as the party is concern.
And the only constitutional power aside that bye-law is another resolution withdrawing the first resolution and that Nwodo did not do and this to me amount to a betrayer of the Niger Delta people.
He said the opponents who are aware of this clause will use them against Jonathan Goodluck when the chips are down and Nwodo knowing fully well of the consequences, is allowing Jonathan to contest and at the same time wants the party to recognize the zoning arrangement and that to me is ‘double speaking’ which amount to betrayer.
He also lamented a situation where the infighting among the party hierarchy as a result of the zoning disagreement will cost the party the presidential ticket, knowing fully well that Nigerians are tired of the PDP, a situation he said he did not pray for because it will cost the South-south and Jonathan a great deal because it will be too late then for Jonathan to join another party.
Omoubi said such scenario might also cause a big crisis in the party and the country in general as the south-south will not want a situation where the Jonathan is scheme out of things and this he predict might spell doom for the country.
‘And you cannot undermine the Northerners, who on their part will not want to succumb to what they claim as marginalization in the zoning arrangement and you cannot undermine them even when they are not on the right side of the argument”.
