SOKOTO—THERE was mild drama in Sokoto, weekend, as 252 special advisers and special assistants of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State resigned their positions, saying they won’t go with him to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Addressing journalists, yesterday, in Sokoto, the aides said their decision was borne out of the resolve to stay in the APC, as they insisted that they had roles to play in the party.

Their spokesman, Dasuki Haske, said their decision was hinged on their loyalty to the APC.

He said: “We deem it fit to state categorically that we are not ready to join Governor Tambuwal in his new party. That was what informed our decision. We will remain in APC and there is no going back.

“We are members of APC before taking up our appointments as SAs and it was based on our membership values that we were given such positions. Now, we have resigned because the governor has not performed well since inception to justify our supports for him.”

However, speaking to Vanguard in response to the resignation, Director-General, Media and Publicity to Governor Tambuwal, Alhaji Abu Shekara, said someone who had been relieved of his position cannot claim to resign from it.

He said:  “Let me confirm to you that all Special Advisers and Assistants serving this government were invited to Government House with a view to ascertaining their readiness to continue with the services for which they were appointed.

“The appointment of those that refused to come was terminated because it signified the fact that they were no longer interested to serve in Tambuwal’s administration. You cannot work with someone whose loyalty you question or will you?

“So, it is only laughable for someone whose appointment has been terminated to turn around to say that he is resigning from it.  Resigning from what, a terminated appointment?”
