UI College of Medicine presents new curriculum to VC

By Ola Ajayi, Ibadan
AFTER 63 years of adopting the version of the medical curriculum of the University of London, the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, has presented a new curriculum to the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro.

Though, the curriculum had undergone several modifications and adaptations, the college still believed it was not in tandem with the world standard and that a revised one would further lift the institution to a higher enviable height and compete favourably with its counterparts across the world.

During the presentation of the curriculum by Dr. Olapade Olaopa on behalf of the College of Medicine, he noted that 26 departments in the Faculty of Medicine would benefit immensely from it.

Professor Bamiro said by embarking on the university-wide review, the College of Medicine had once again taken the lead adding that “at the inception of the Medical School in 1857, its curriculum was an adopted version of the University of London.

He promised that the same vigour that led to the drafting of the curriculum
Would be employed to the implementation level.

Various reviewers and participants commented favourably on the industry and comprehensiveness brought into the curriculum saying it would serve as model for other institutions in the country and the world to follow.

Speaking earlier, the Provost, College of Medicine, University College Hospital, Prof. O.O. Akiinyinka said the process of the MB.BS curriculum of the college being unveiled had emerged from a very rigorous crucible that had spanned approximately five years which started with the analysis of the existing curriculum.
