Lawyers seek fair review of case involving Hammed Akanbi

Lawyers representing Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi have called for a thorough and impartial review of the criminal case against their client, who is facing charges linked to the deaths of Prince Demola Akinloye and Sheriff Salami.

Speaking at a press conference attended by journalists, civil society representatives and members of the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, members of Akanbi’s legal team urged authorities to ensure that the case is handled in accordance with the law and established judicial processes.

The lawyers described the deaths as tragic and said all parties involved deserve justice. They, however, stressed the importance of allowing the courts and relevant authorities to determine the facts of the case without external influence.

According to the legal team, their client has cooperated with investigations and remains committed to clearing his name through the legal process.

They also raised concerns about public commentary surrounding the case, urging stakeholders to avoid statements that could prejudice ongoing proceedings.

Akanbi’s lawyers further called on the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and other relevant institutions to carefully review all available evidence before reaching any conclusions.

The legal team expressed confidence in the judicial system and said they would continue to pursue all lawful avenues available to their client.

Akanbi was arraigned before a magistrate court on May 22, 2026, on charges including conspiracy to commit murder, membership of an unlawful society and threats of violence. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court subsequently ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and further review.

The lawyers appealed for calm among supporters and members of the public while the legal process runs its course.

The police and prosecuting authorities have continued with their investigation, while the case remains before the courts. No determination has yet been made regarding the allegations, and the defendants remain entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.
