Royalty and leadership unite as Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu dedicates milestones to mosque project

The Ikorodu Division witnessed an unprecedented display of unity, tradition, and religious devotion on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, as a galaxy of eminent personalities gathered for the Grand Reception in honour of the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu Division, Sheikh Seifudeen Ademoritan Olowooribi.

The event served as the glorious climax of a “Twin Celebration” marking the Imam’s 70th Birthday and 20th Imamate Anniversary. Far more than a social gathering, the reception marked a monumental step toward a divine vision: the total rebuilding of the Ikorodu Central Mosque.

The defining moment of the reception was a profound act of sacrifice. Guided by the theme “Our Mosque: My Legacy,” the Grand Chief Imam remained steadfast in his pledge to redirect the celebration’s success toward the community’s spiritual infrastructure.

In a symbolic handover that moved the congregation, all cash gifts and donations were received on behalf of the Celebrant by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Hon. Kamardeen Olowosago. Addressing the crowd, Hon. Olowosago reaffirmed:

“Today, we are not only celebrating a man of deep faith and vision, but also honouring his noble intention to leave behind a legacy that will outlive him. Our revered Grand Chief Imam has chosen to dedicate his 70th birthday and 20th Imamate anniversary entirely to the rebuilding of the Ikorodu Central Mosque.”

Hon. Olowosago added that this journey is just the beginning: “This rebuilding effort will be a continuum. In due course, we shall announce a special day dedicated to further fundraising efforts for an ultra-modern Central Mosque that will serve our growing community.”

By choosing to forgo personal gifts in favour of a “Seed Fund,” Sheikh Olowooribi has set a historic precedent for religious leadership in Nigeria. The proposed project is envisioned as a state-of-the-art center for worship and education, designed to be a beacon of light for the Ikorodu Division for decades to come.

The success of the event was bolstered by a galaxy of eminent personalities who converged on Ikorodu to witness this historic pledge.

The executive and legislative arms of government were well represented, including officials on behalf of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State, representatives of Senator Mikhail Abiru, and the personal presence of Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives.

The traditional institution turned out in full splendor, led by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi (Ayangbure of Ikorodu), His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali (Adeboruwa of Igbogbo), and His Royal Majesty, Oba Mahruf Oluwa (Olu Iwa of Apapa Kingdom).

The spiritual atmosphere was further enriched by the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Fadheelat Sheikh Sulaiman Abou-Nolla, alongside Divisional Chief Imams from across the State and heads of various prominent Islamic organizations, all standing in solidarity with the Grand Chief Imam’s vision.
