Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said the ongoing remodeling of Osogbo City Stadium will be upgraded from a 4,000-seat capacity to 15,000, in line with FIFA standards and certification requirements.

The governor noted that the expanded capacity is expected to attract major sporting events and boost sports development across the state.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke made the disclosure after an early morning project review session at the Government House in Osogbo, part of ongoing assessments that began last week.

He expressed satisfaction with the involvement of foreign technical partners working alongside contractors to ensure the stadium meets global standards necessary for FIFA certification.

“In remodeling the stadium, we must satisfy global standards. I am pleased with the involvement of local and international experts to ensure we meet FIFA and all associated requirements. This is key to integrating Osun into the mainstream of sports development in the country,” the governor said.

Adeleke, who described himself as a sports enthusiast, added that efforts are underway to operationalise the Osun Sports Trust Fund, including meeting legal requirements and developing an appropriate policy framework.

“Upon completion, Osun will be qualified to host local and international sporting events. Sports development will take a new turn, and our young population will have a strong platform to nurture their talents,” he added.

The governor further disclosed that his administration is working towards the full operationalisation of the Osun State Sports Commission, alongside other reforms aimed at addressing challenges in the sector.

“I envision an Osun sports sector with modern facilities, an empowered workforce, and expanded opportunities for sportsmen and women,” he said.
