UMUAHIA – The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has launched a blistering attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging Nigerians to reject the party in the 2027 general elections.

PDP described APC’s over a decade in power as a “monumental failure” that has plunged Nigeria into hardship.

Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia on Thursday, Chairman of the Abia PDP Caretaker Committee, Hon. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, said the APC had “inflicted untold suffering on Nigerians” and should not be entrusted with another mandate.

“For over 11 years, Nigerians have endured economic decline, rising insecurity, and a collapse of public trust under APC leadership. A government that has failed this badly cannot be trusted with even one more day in office,” he declared.

The opposition party painted a grim picture of the country, citing soaring inflation, mass unemployment, failing businesses, and worsening poverty as evidence of what it called APC’s “failed experiment.”

On security, the PDP said Nigerians now live in fear due to escalating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and communal clashes, accusing the ruling party of failing in its primary duty to protect lives and property.

PDP also alleged a deliberate weakening of democratic institutions, claiming that the APC has undermined the independence of the judiciary and electoral bodies while promoting propaganda over governance.

In a strong warning ahead of the 2027 polls, the PDP accused the ruling party of plotting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state through “intimidation, coercion, and manipulation of state institutions,” describing the move as “a direct threat to Nigeria’s democracy.”

The party further listed what it described as failures across key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and rising national debt, insisting that the APC has little to show for “years of borrowing.”

Turning to Abia politics, the PDP cautioned residents against allowing the APC gain a foothold in the state, warning that it would amount to “importing federal failure and hardship.”

“A vote for APC is a vote for stagnation and regression. Abia must not fall into the hands of those who have mismanaged the country,” Emeka-Yellow said.

He also took a swipe at some APC figures in the state, describing them as “recycled politicians” who had previously presided over years of underdevelopment in Abia but are now seeking political redemption under a new platform.

” It is important to note that many of those championing the APC in Abia today are the same political actors who presided over years of underdevelopment and mismanagement. They seek to rebrand themselves under a different platform, but Abians are wiser and will not be deceived again. Let us be vigilant!”

Responding to questions, Emeka- Yellow said APC must not be allowed to reverse the progress already recorded in the state, urging different political parties including the ruling Labour Party in Abia to unite against the APC.

He noted that even the blind could see the visible developments by the current administration in Abia, insisting that self-seeking politicians masquerading as political messiahs should not be allowed”to take Abia back to Egypt”.

The PDP, however, expressed readiness for the 2027 elections, assuring that it remains “strong, united, and firmly on ground” to field credible candidates across all levels.

It called for unity among opposition forces and urged political stakeholders in the state to rise above partisan interests to defend democracy.

“The PDP is repositioned and ready to rescue Nigeria. The time to act is now,” the party stated.

He maintained that Kabiru Turaki -led national leadership of PDP remains the authentic leadership of the party, expressing hope for a favourable outcome of the pending litigation at the Supreme Court judgment.

He dismissed the other faction of the PDP as “undertakers and an extension of the APC”, while urging Nigerians not to be deceived and confused by their antics.
