Unity, Renewal and Readiness for 2027: Arenyeka Leads a Repositioned Delta APC

Politics, when responsibly practiced, is the management of differences in pursuit of a common destiny. It demands patience, consultation and an abiding recognition that institutions must always be stronger than individuals. The State Congress of the Delta chapter of the All Progressives Congress held on 3 March 2026 at the Cenotaph in Asaba offered such a moment of institutional maturity.

The consensual emergence of Hon. Chief Solomon Arenyeka as State Chairman, alongside the inauguration of a new State Working Committee, was more than procedural. It symbolised renewal anchored in unity. From the wards to the 25 local government areas and ultimately to the state congress, the process reflected fidelity to constitutional order and party guidelines. In a political climate often coloured by suspicion, Delta APC chose consultation over contention.

The formal dissolution of the outgoing executive, moved by Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, signified continuity rather than rupture. Elder Omeni Sobotie exits the chairmanship with the respect of party faithful, having guided the party through a defining transition following the political realignment of April 2025. His reminder that humility sustains what ability achieves remains a lesson in political stewardship.

The re election of Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary further reinforces continuity in voice and message. In periods of political recalibration, coherence in communication becomes indispensable. His renewed mandate reflects confidence in disciplined engagement and principled articulation of party positions.

Equally strategic is the election of Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary. The office he now occupies is the engine room of party administration. It demands structure, coordination and the capacity to translate vision into measurable grassroots presence. Having served alongside him in local government administration, I have observed his methodical disposition and appreciation for institutional order. His emergence strengthens the organisational spine of the party at a time when preparation, not proclamation, will determine electoral success.

Addressing the congress, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori framed the gathering not as a ceremonial conclusion but as a strategic commencement. He described the process as inclusive and devoid of imposition, underscoring broad consultation and shared ownership of the emerging structure. More importantly, he charged the new executive to begin immediate preparation for comprehensive victory in the 2027 general elections.

That directive situates Delta within the broader national trajectory under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Yet elections are not secured by aspiration alone. They are won through disciplined organisation, sustained grassroots engagement and credible governance. The responsibility before the new leadership is therefore as operational as it is symbolic.

Chief Solomon Arenyeka brings to office administrative experience and grassroots familiarity, notably from his tenure as Warri North Council Chairman. Leadership, however, is tested not by titles previously held but by the ability to harmonise interests and inspire collective purpose. The immediate task is clear: deepen internal cohesion, strengthen local structures and convert consensus into strategic readiness.

Unity achieved at a congress must mature into enduring collaboration. Political organisations falter when ambition eclipses shared vision. Those whose aspirations were deferred in this cycle must recognise that relevance in politics extends beyond office. Service and loyalty remain enduring currencies of influence.

What transpired in Asaba affirms a simple but profound truth: stability within precedes strength without. A party that manages its processes with maturity builds credibility before the electorate.

As 2027 approaches, the Delta APC stands repositioned. Renewal has occurred without rancour. Unity has been publicly affirmed. The challenge now is to transform these virtues into measurable political advantage.

History will not merely record who emerged at the congress. It will assess whether this moment of convergence becomes the foundation of enduring electoral triumph.
