Nigerian researcher publishes study on governance framework on autism in US

A Nigerian-born scholar and project management researcher, Amienye Enabulele, has published a peer-reviewed study examining how structured governance models can strengthen autism support systems in the United States.

Amienye a graduate researcher from Missouri State University, focuses on how project management strategies can improve healthcare delivery for children living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The study evaluates how fragmented planning, weak accountability structures and poor coordination among institutions often limit the effectiveness of autism-support programmes in the United States.

In the research, the Nigerian scholar proposed a governance-based framework designed to improve programme reliability, enhance collaboration among stakeholders and enable autism-support initiatives to scale across healthcare, education and community systems.

The framework integrates project management principles such as phased planning structures, risk-assessment procedures, clearly defined stakeholder responsibilities and continuous performance monitoring systems.

Speaking on the motivation behind the research, Amienye said many autism-support initiatives struggle not because of lack of ideas but due to weak implementation structures.

“Autism-support initiatives are frequently innovative, but execution gaps can limit their long-term impact,” he said.

“Structured governance helps ensure that these programmes are implemented consistently and sustained over time,” the researcher added.

According to the study, the rising prevalence of autism in the United States has placed increasing pressure on healthcare institutions and educational systems to expand and coordinate services for affected children.

The research also notes that the growing use of digital health tools and multi-agency collaborations has increased operational complexity, making structured oversight and clear implementation systems more important for maintaining quality and accessibility of services.

Amienye said his future research will continue to explore governance-driven models that promote sustainability in public health programmes, stressing that innovation can only deliver lasting impact when supported by strong and well-structured implementation systems.
