VFD Group Plc has announced the appointment of Martins Akpore as its new Group Head, Centralised Critical Functions (CCF).
The company disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying Akpore will lead and oversee the Group’s centralised functions covering finance, audit, risk management, credit and treasury.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Martins Akpore, as Group Head, Centralised Critical Functions at VFD Group Plc,” the company said.
According to the statement, “In this expanded strategic role, Martins will lead and oversee the Group’s centralised functions spanning Finance, Audit, Risk Management, Credit, and Treasury, effective immediately.”
VFD Group noted that Akpore brings extensive professional experience and technical expertise to the role, backed by multiple professional qualifications.
“Martins brings to this role a strong professional foundation and deep expertise across core financial disciplines, underpinned by his credentials as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Professional, and Certified Treasury specialist, as well as globally recognised certifications in financial modelling and valuation,” the company stated.
Before his new appointment, Akpore served as the Group Head, Treasury, where he was said to have played a significant role in strengthening the Group’s financial and capital management structure.
“He currently serves as Group Head, Treasury, where he has played a key role in strengthening the Group’s financial and capital management capabilities across the ecosystem,” the statement added.
The company said Akpore’s new responsibilities include driving strategy, governance and execution across the Group’s critical functions.
“In his new capacity, Martins will be responsible for driving cohesive strategy, governance, and execution across the Centralised Critical Functions, ensuring robust risk oversight, disciplined financial operations, and alignment with the Group’s strategic priorities,” it said.
VFD Group further disclosed that Akpore will work closely with managing directors and leadership teams across its subsidiaries to strengthen standards and decision-making processes.
“He will work closely with subsidiary leadership teams to enhance institutional standards, strengthen accountability, and support cross-ecosystem decision making on critical matters,” the statement said.
The Group Managing Director, Nonso Okpala, also underscored the importance of collaboration in delivering the company’s long-term goals.
“The Group Managing Director, Nonso Okpala, has emphasised the importance of collaboration and execution discipline in delivering our Vision 2026 ambitions,” the company said, adding that subsidiary managing directors and senior leaders have been encouraged to “partner closely with Martins to ensure alignment, responsiveness, and shared ownership in achieving the Group’s objectives.”
