A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Kayode Fakuyi, has pledged to deliver people-centred and inclusive representation as he seeks the Ondo South Senatorial seat.
Fakuyi, 36, declared his ambition against the backdrop of growing political activities in the district following the nomination and confirmation of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim for an ambassadorial appointment, which has raised expectations of a vacancy in the National Assembly.
The Ilutitun Ward 2 indigene of Okitipupa Local Government Area described himself as well prepared for the task, citing his academic background and extensive legislative exposure.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, Fakuyi said his nearly three decades of political involvement and about 10 years of working experience in the National Assembly had positioned him to offer effective and responsive representation.
Despite his criticism of comparative legislative experience, Fakuyi acknowledged the contributions of Senator Ibrahim to Ondo South, commending him for educational interventions and private investments in the district. He congratulated the senator on his ambassadorial appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to succeed him.
Outlining his agenda, Fakuyi said his focus would be on building strong systems that ensure inclusiveness and constant engagement with constituents.
He proposed a ward-based communication structure linking all 66 wards in Ondo South to guarantee regular feedback and accountability.
He identified welfare, security and environmental challenges—especially sea incursion affecting coastal communities such as Ayetoro and Obe-Nla—as top priorities, promising to push for direct federal intervention beyond legislative motions.
The APC aspirant also pledged to facilitate basic amenities, promote equitable project distribution, invest in human capacity development, and establish vocational and skills acquisition centres across the district.
On party politics, Fakuyi expressed confidence in securing the APC ticket through a credible process, noting zoning sentiments and constitutional eligibility.
He also called for legislative reforms to strengthen security architecture, including amendments to policing and firearms laws to address Nigeria’s current security realities.
“I am committed to a representation that truly reflects the needs, voices and aspirations of the people of Ondo South,” he said.
