SOKOTO — Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS) has taken a major step toward international academic engagement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Lahore, Pakistan, aimed at fostering collaboration in teaching, research, and professional training.

Speaking at a press conference after the formal signing ceremony, NWUS Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, described the agreement as a significant milestone in the university’s strategic drive for internationalisation and academic excellence.

Professor Bunza said the partnership aligns with the vision of NWUS Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to advance higher education through global cooperation.

“In today’s interconnected world, universities must collaborate across borders to strengthen research, innovation, and professional training,” he said. “This MoU establishes a structured framework for mutual cooperation in teaching, research, training, and knowledge exchange, particularly in medical and allied disciplines.”

The Vice Chancellor explained that the agreement will create opportunities for joint research initiatives, curriculum development, professional training, staff and student mobility, seminars, workshops, and other scholarly engagements aimed at promoting intellectual interaction and global best practices.

Professor Bunza also noted that the partnership operates within the regulatory framework of the National Universities Commission (NUC), ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, quality assurance, and institutional capacity standards.

He emphasized that the collaboration goes beyond ceremonial significance, promising tangible benefits such as enhanced research productivity, expanded learning experiences, and institutional capacity building for both universities.

“This initiative embodies our philosophy of ‘Building a Home of Knowledge that Speaks to the World,’” Professor Bunza said. “We are confident that our collaboration with the University of Lahore will be productive, impactful, and sustainable.”

The Vice Chancellor concluded by expressing gratitude to the University of Lahore for its commitment to academic excellence and to the media for supporting the communication of NWUS’s achievements.
