The Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association, NPMA, an umbrella body of about 58 different markets in Lagos State, has urged the state government to alleviate the hardship it’s members face.
The NPMA, in a statement by its president, Mr Chinedu Ukatu called for compensation and support for the victims of the recent devastating fire incident at Great Nigeria House in Balogun Market, Lagos Island, Lagos.

The association said: *On behalf of Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association (NPMA) Lagos, I am appealing for immediate compensation and support for the victims of the recent devastating fire incident at Great Nigeria House in Balogun Market, Lagos Island, Lagos.

“The fire, which occurred on December 24, 2025, has left many traders in ruin, destroying their livelihoods and sources of income. Sadly, many lives were lost, and breadwinners of families were affected.

“We urge the Federal Government to provide adequate assistance, including financial compensation to help these individuals recover and rebuild their businesses. We also appeal to the government to intervene by offering palliatives to traders whose shops were cordoned off pending the evacuation of the devastated building, as they have no other means to earn a living.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Lagos State Government and pledge to cooperate with the government on measures to prevent such incidents in the future. We also appeal to the Committee set up by the Lagos State government to expedite action on the evacuation process, enabling traders to return to business.”
