ABUJA — The Northern Citizens’ Group has called for clarification over remarks attributed to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, regarding the alleged monitoring of a serving National Security Adviser’s phone conversations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s President, Yusuf Kanhu, said clarity on the matter was necessary to prevent public misunderstanding and to sustain confidence in national security institutions.
The group noted that if the remarks were inaccurately reported or taken out of context, a prompt clarification would help address concerns and maintain public trust.
It urged relevant authorities to review the issue and provide guidance where necessary, emphasising the importance of responsible communication on sensitive security matters.
The statement also encouraged political leaders and public figures to exercise caution in public commentary on national security issues to avoid misinterpretation and unnecessary tension.
The group reiterated the need for continued efforts to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions and promote national stability.
