NANS Ondo Axis scribe, Oluwafemi, organises programme on secretarial effectiveness

By Adesina Wahab
The General Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS,, Joint Campus Council, Ondo Axis, Comrade Oladele Oluwafemi, has organized a programme for students and student leaders on how to use technology and modern tools for effective running of secretariat and achieving leadership effectiveness.
This is just as he called for the deployment of technological driven tools in documentation and smooth running of organisations.
The programme was termed “The Convergence ’26”, and it marked a significant milestone in strengthening administrative excellence within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Ondo Axis.
The programme successfully advanced its goal of redefining the role of the secretariat by equipping student leaders with modern approaches, digital tools, and renewed perspectives essential for effective governance.
A key highlight of the event was the lecture delivered by Comr. Tolulope Adeyefa, who emphasized that the secretarial office must evolve beyond routine paperwork if it is to remain relevant in today’s leadership environment.
He explained that while minute taking and documentation remain foundational responsibilities, modern student governance now demands systems that foster efficiency, accountability, and administrative continuity across successive administrations.
Adeyefa underscored the importance of simple yet powerful digital tools such as cloud storage, collaborative documents, and online scheduling platforms which could drastically reduce administrative lapses and promote organizational coherence.
He acknowledged the existing challenges of limited digital skills, poor access to resources, and resistance to change, but emphasized that these could be addressed through targeted training, institutionalized processes, and effective handover culture.
In alignment with this message, Mr. Ifeoluwa Abe delivered an insightful presentation on the Introduction of “Technological Tools to Enhance Smooth Delivery of Secretarial Duties”.
He traced the historical evolution of secretarial duties from ancient scribes to today’s technology-driven administrative environment. Abe highlighted major secretarial responsibilities such as data entry, coordination, communication, and documentation, and demonstrated how modern tools particularly document management software like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Dropbox have transformed these tasks.
He emphasized that the shift from paper-based systems to digital operations is no longer optional but essential for any secretariat seeking speed, accuracy, and long-term record preservation.
A major achievement of the programme was the official unveiling of the NANS Ondo JCC website, a development that signifies a bold step toward institutional modernization.
The platform will serve as a digital hub for documentation, public communication, event updates, policy access, and transparency.
With this innovation, the JCC now has an online system capable of improving engagement, strengthening archival processes, and enhancing administrative visibility across all institutions under the Ondo Axis.
Overall, The Convergence ’26 successfully provided participants with practical knowledge, modern tools, and a renewed administrative outlook. The programme not only deepened understanding of secretarial functions but also set the foundation for a more efficient, unified, and technologically driven student leadership structure within the Ondo Axis.
