Group wants Tinubu to assess NSITF leadership, boost confidence

ABUJA – A northern group, Arewa Revival Project, ARP, wants President Bola Tinubu to assess the management and operations of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, in order to boost public confidence and safeguard contributors’ funds.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Project Coordinator, ARP, Muttaka Ibrahim, on Tuesday.

Ibrahim stressed that Nigerian workers deserve transparency, accountability and efficiency in the management of social security schemes designed for their welfare.

He noted that protecting contributors’ funds is essential to maintaining trust in institutions responsible for social protection.

He said: “Nigerian workers and contributors to the NSITF deserve protection and reassurance that their funds are being managed in line with the law and best practices.”

He added that decisive intervention by the President would help strengthen the integrity of the NSITF and restore confidence in Nigeria’s social insurance framework.

According to Ibrahim, ARP’s call reflects its commitment to transparency, good governance and accountability in public institutions, particularly those tasked with managing workers’ welfare.

He further urged civil society organisations, labour unions and other stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at ensuring that social insurance bodies operate within legal provisions and in the best interest of contributors.

The NSITF is a statutory agency responsible for implementing the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, which provides financial support and compensation to workers who suffer injuries, disabilities or death in the course of employment.

ARP maintained that sustained oversight, strict adherence to due process and strong institutional governance are necessary to ensure the fund effectively delivers on its mandate to Nigerian workers.
