Residents of Imala/Idi Emi Ward 14 in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State have received a boost as the councillor representing the ward, Hon. Victor Olusola, distributed gas cylinders, cash support and solar-powered lighting kits to constituents.
The empowerment programme, held in Imala, was aimed at improving the living standards of residents, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises and providing alternative power solutions for households in the community.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Olusola said the initiative was part of his commitment to ensuring that governance delivers tangible benefits at the grassroots.
“This empowerment is my own way of giving back to my people and supporting their businesses and daily needs,” he said.
He explained that the gas cylinders were provided to encourage safer cooking practices, the cash support to strengthen small-scale businesses, while the solar-powered kits were meant to address persistent power challenges in the area.
Beneficiaries were also trained on the proper use and maintenance of the solar lights.
The councillor recalled that he had earlier facilitated the grading of major roads within the ward to improve accessibility and enhance economic activities.
“My strategy is to provide timely solutions that will guarantee smoother driving surfaces and improve the structural stability of roads for the benefit of motorists, traders and residents of Ward 14,” Olusola stated.
He noted that the poor condition of internal roads had previously hindered free movement and affected commercial activities, adding that the grading exercise had significantly eased transportation challenges and reduced vehicle damage.
Commending the initiative, former Caretaker Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Ibikunle Bayowa, praised Olusola for his consistency in community development.
“I really appreciate the councillor of this ward for what he has been doing. He graded the road leading to the community and continues to empower his people,” Bayowa said.
Also speaking, the Leader of the House at the Legislative Arm of the local government, Hon. Moruf Erubami, described Olusola as a people-oriented councillor.
Erubami encouraged other councillors to give back to their communities within their available resources, while also cautioning beneficiaries against selling the items.
Similarly, the Chairman of the ward, Mr. Sunday Akintade, described the empowerment programme as unprecedented in the community and commended the councillor for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
Beneficiaries, including Mr. Idowu Anisere and Mrs. Olajide Oluwatolani, expressed gratitude to the councillor, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
