As Africa continues to thrive as a hub of technological innovation, there are four Nigerian tech leaders and engineers who have shown and clearly distinguished themselves on the global stage. Currently, their contributions have now spanned fintech, cybersecurity, AI, and robotics, impacting lots of users worldwide. These four individuals are exceptional for their unique blend of technical expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and global impact: Olugbenga Agboola, Oluwatomi Obinna Alagbe, Shola Akinlade, and Silas Adekunle. 

Oluwatomi Obinna Alagbe – Great Engineering Impact Across Cybersecurity, Fintech, and AI

Oluwatomi Obinna Alagbe’s expertise allows him to operate behind the scenes, engineering the systems that protect, empower, and also enable seamless digital experiences globally. Oluwatomi has a very critical niche but with over 10 years of experience, Oluwatomi has largely contributed to software systems in cybersecurity, fintech, AI, and even in crypto that are used by millions of people worldwide.

At Malwarebytes, he leads and coordinates the engineering and maintenance of anti-malware and cybersecurity software, safeguarding so many devices across the globe. These systems were built to protect users from malicious software, phishing attacks, and cyber threats daily, making him a very important and critical player in global digital security infrastructure.

Oluwatomi’s work in fintech has spanned not just within Africa but also at international markets. He was instrumental in creating Nigeria’s first mobile POS solution and had a great impact in core banking platforms like Olympos (TeamApt/Moniepoint). These systems have continued to power digital transactions for millions of people, and also helped to modernize Nigeria’s financial ecosystem. His time at Change Invest also showed his unique ability to innovate in crypto and investment platforms, building features that allow all users to earn interest on digital assets and also conduct leveraged trades securely.

He is currently at Caesar Data Inc., where he works on an AI-powered deep research assistant, removing the boundaries of data synthesis and intelligence. Oluwatomi beyond product development contributes to thought leadership, even publishing on topics such as the impact of AI on cybersecurity and mentoring engineers globally.

Oluwatomi significantly represents a rare category of engineers: those whose work is highly technical engineering, product innovation, and global impact, making sure digital systems are secure, scalable, and quite intelligent. Olugbenga Agboola, the visionary founder and CEO of Flutterwave, has uniquely  transformed payment systems across Africa and beyond. The Flutterwave platform now supports millions of businesses in ensuring smooth and seamless transactions, as well as connecting African commerce with the global market. Presently, the company has processed up to billions of dollars in payments, and its influence has stretched into Europe and the United States, making  it easier for small businesses to access the same secure payment infrastructure as big multinational corporations.

The method of approach used by Agboola combines technical depth with strategic vision. He has built strong, resilient, and scalable systems that are capable of handling high transaction volumes, ensuring there is reliability for both merchants and consumers as well. Shola Akinlade – Experienced Developer-Centric Fintech Leadership

Shola Akinlade is a co-founder of Paystack, he complements the fintech narrative with a developer-first approach. Paystack was acquired by Stripe, showing a sense of a global recognition of African engineering talent. Akinlade focused on secure, developer-friendly payment infrastructure that has enabled seamless integration for the business worldwide.  Currently Paystack’s systems aid millions of merchants, easing cross-border transactions with accountability and reliability.

Akinlade’s operates more on the entrepreneurial and platform leadership aspect. Both lay emphasis on building products that scale, are secure, and provide important value to users, making their contributions complementary in advancing African tech globally.

Silas Adekunle – Involvement in Pioneering AI and Robotics Innovation

As the fintech and cybersecurity niche dominate much of the Nigerian tech narrative, Silas Adekunle has also brought African innovation to the world of robotics and AI. He is the founder of Reach Robotics, and a creator of the intelligent gaming robot MekaMon. Adekunle deals with the combination of hardware, software, and AI into globally recognized products. Presently Adekunle has really  showcased how African engineers can innovate in emerging technology sectors, motivating and inspiring a new generation of technologists. His work complements the fields of Oluwatomi and others showing that African talent is not limited to software or finance but can thrive in complex, interdisciplinary engineering domains as well.

Bolaji Akinboro — Pan-African Fintech and Blockchain Strategist

Bolaji Akinboro is a Nigerian technology executive and entrepreneur best known as a co-founder of Cellulant, a pan-African fintech company that has helped digitize payments for businesses across the continent.
