Stationery firm celebrates 50 years of shaving razor, vows deeper innovation for Nigerians

BIC, global manufacturer of stationery, lighters, and shavers, has marked the 50th anniversary of its BIC 1 disposable razor, reaffirming its commitment to accessible grooming products and expanded innovation for the Nigerian consumer market.

Speaking on the milestone , General Manager, BIC Nigeria, Anthony Amahwe said the product’s longevity reflects the company’s sustained investment in engineering improvements, quality control and affordability.

He said “The 50-year legacy of the BIC 1 goes beyond an anniversary. It is the story of how smart engineering and accessible design have shaped daily grooming for millions, including here in Nigeria. Our commitment has always been to make high-quality shaving simple and attainable, without compromising on safety or performance.

“As we mark this milestone, we remain focused on pushing the boundaries of innovation and delivering products that genuinely improve the everyday routines of our consumers,” he added.

He explained that every BIC blade undergoes over 60 quality checks and is engineered to be up to 2,000 times thinner than a strand of human hair to guarantee safety and smoothness during use.

“We are continually evolving. From BIC Flex 2 for men with its pivoting head and aloe-infused comfort to Miss Soleil for women, we design blades that meet diverse grooming needs while remaining skin-friendly and accessible,” he added.

He added that sustainability is now fundamental to production strategy, revealing that BIC incorporates up to 90% recycled content in handles, 80% recycled steel in blades, and runs its factories with over 92% renewable energy.

Amahwe reaffirms the company’s commitment to innovation, accessibility, and responsible manufacturing that will ensure that everyday grooming remains simple, reliable, and enjoyable for millions across Nigeria and beyond.
