The 2025 Africa Future Leadership Conference, held at the PISTIS Elevation Hub in Ikeja, Lagos, brought together delegates from across Africa to discuss leadership, technology, and innovation as catalysts for sustainable growth on the continent.
The event, with the theme, ‘Towards a Prosperous Africa: Leveraging Leadership, Technology and Innovation’, featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony celebrating outstanding contributors to Africa’s development narrative.
In his keynote address, the convener and publisher, Africa Future Leadership Magazine, Ambassador Mark Idiahi, noted that the Africa Future Leadership Conference and awards marked its 10th year, aiming to highlight Africa’s potential and rewrite its narrative through leadership and innovation.
The annual event, now in its tenth year, aims to highlight Africa’s potential and rewrite its narrative through the perspective of leadership and innovation.
According to Amb. Mark who emphasised the conference’s decade-long mission to spotlight Africa’s potential and reshape its story through visionary leadership, Africa stands today at a critical crossroads.
With a growing population, evolving economies, and citizens demanding accountability, innovation and growth, he asserted, leadership is the nexus of progress.
“Leadership plays a very significant role, whether you are leading a business or a family. Without the interplay of leadership, any venture amounts to nothing”, he stated.
Our population is expanding, our economies are evolving, and our citizens are demanding a new era of accountability, innovation, and growth, he pointed out, highlighting the pivotal role of leadership.
Amb. Idiahi also addressed the misconception that politics is inherently ‘dirty’, saying, it is the character of those who enter that determines whether it spreads corruption or drives transformation.
While urging individuals of integrity to enter leadership in order to influence policy and drive transformation, he also called on African governments to create enabling environments by tackling insecurity and enacting pro-business policies, which could curb migration and empower youth.
He also advised Nigerian youth to uphold values, saying their associations will predict their future, that who they are will determine what they have, urging them not to compromise.
Rev. Dr. Israel Kristilere of Shepherdhill Baptist Church spoke on, ‘Towards a Prosperous Africa: Leveraging Leadership, Technology, and Innovation’.
He urged attendees to redefine prosperity as human flourishing, not just economic numbers.
Also speaking, Rev. Dr. Kristilere who described Africa’s story as one of unrealised greatness, said that, “The continent is blessed with immense natural wealth, youthful energy, and divine potential, yet it still wrestles with the ghosts of poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment. Africa’s best days are not behind us, they are before us.”
He also explained that prosperity goes beyond abundant resources or statistics.
“Prosperity, in its truest sense, is human flourishing where people live with dignity, every child can dream, innovate, and contribute meaningfully.

A prosperous Africa is one where leadership inspires, technology empowers, and innovation transforms lives. It looks inward to its own people, cultures, and values for solutions, and it is inclusive, reaching the forgotten rural farmer, the unemployed graduate, and the young girl in a remote village who dreams of coding or leading her community.”
On leadership, he said it is the continent’s greatest challenge, stating that, “Natural resources without good leadership breed corruption and inequality, but visionary, morally anchored leadership can turn scarcity into abundance. Leadership isn’t reserved for presidents or governors, it belongs to every person who takes responsibility for their community, organisation, and future.”
In addition, he said, “The kind of leadership that births a prosperous Africa is an influence rooted in integrity. Without integrity, leadership becomes manipulation. With moral conviction, it becomes transformative. As our faith teaches, ‘to whom much is given, much is required.’ African leaders, whether in government, business, or faith, must see themselves as stewards, servants, not rulers. The future will be built by leaders of character who model humility, accountability, and relentless commitment to the common good.”
Dr. Akin Akinpelu presented a people‑centric model, “Financing Africa’s Future,” highlighting $88 bn lost to illicit flows and 30 per cent youth unemployment, proposing five focus areas, namely,
SME FINANCING Financing productivity through SME support and informal‑sector credit systems.
INFRASTRUCTURE,
Building productive infrastructure, especially power, logistics, and broadband.
HUMAN‑CAPITAL INVESTMENT
Investing in human capital aligned with market needs.
REDEFINING LEADERSHIP, AND REGIONAL
Redefining leadership as system architects rather than gatekeepers.
And, achieving regional scale, through full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
