…reaffirms commitment to student welfare

The Management of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has categorically denied recent claims circulating in the media alleging that students study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite the institution’s ₦39 billion budget.
Describing the report as false, misleading, and damaging to its reputation, the Institute asserted that there is no truth to the allegations and that the claims are part of a broader attempt to discredit the progress made by the current administration.

In a statement issued on Friday, PTI management declared:
“There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are entirely fabricated and unsupported by any factual evidence.”
The management challenged the source of the report to provide verifiable photographic or video evidence to support its claims, stating:
“If such conditions truly exist, proof should be readily available. In the absence of such, the report amounts to reckless misrepresentation intended to mislead the public.”
PTI emphasized that all its facilities—including lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels—are structurally sound, properly maintained, and conducive for academic activities. It added that regular upgrades and maintenance routines are in place to ensure students and staff enjoy a safe and enabling environment.
The Institute described the report as the work of “unscrupulous elements” attempting to sow distrust and undermine the developmental strides recorded in recent years.
As a federal institution dedicated to petroleum education and manpower development, PTI highlighted the transformations it has achieved under its current leadership—ranging from improved physical infrastructure and digital modernization to enhanced student welfare and training quality. These efforts, it noted, have earned both national and international recognition.
The management assured parents, students, and the public that PTI remains unwavering in its commitment to delivering high-quality training and maintaining a safe campus environment.
In concluding its response, PTI urged media practitioners to uphold the ethics of responsible journalism by thoroughly verifying facts before going to press.
