Defection: I remain fully committed to PDP, nothing will change that — Prince Ewenla

LAGOS — A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and South-West Ex-Officio, Prince Ambassador (Dr) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP, dismissing rumours of defection or involvement in coalition talks with other political parties.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Ewenla emphasized his loyalty to the PDP, describing it as the only party capable of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

“I am PDP. I remain PDP. And nothing can change that,” Ewenla declared.

He described the PDP as Nigeria’s most credible and development-driven political party, noting its record in governance between 1999 and 2015. He cited achievements in infrastructure, telecommunications, healthcare, and education as legacies of the party’s leadership.

Ewenla highlighted the liberalization of the telecommunications sector, which brought mobile phones and internet access to millions of Nigerians, and praised the establishment of key institutions like the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

“The ease with which Nigerians now communicate, transfer money digitally, and participate in the global digital economy is a direct legacy of PDP governance,” he noted.

Ewenla also condemned ongoing efforts by some party members to align with other political parties, describing such moves as “desperate and selfish,” and said they lacked the endorsement of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).

“Those defecting or aligning secretly with other parties are simply working for Tinubu’s second term agenda. They are what we call PDAPC — PDP by day, APC by night,” he stated.

He clarified that the PDP has not formed any alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other coalition, warning that such actions only weaken the party and embolden the ruling APC.

Calling for party unity, Ewenla urged members to remain focused on the goal of reclaiming power in 2027. He acknowledged that internal disagreements were natural but stressed the need for reconciliation and loyalty.

“Rather than jumping from one party to another, we must seek reconciliation and resolution. Our leaders are already taking steps to address internal issues. The PDP remains the only hope for a better Nigeria,” he said.

He concluded with a resolute declaration: I am PDP, I remain PDP And nothing can change that.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Ewenla’s message to party faithful is clear: unity and loyalty are essential if the PDP hopes to return to power.
