ABUJA – AS the nation set to mark Democracy Day on June 12,2025, a former Member of House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia South/North of Abia State, Hon Sam Onuigbo, Tuesday, described President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s indisputable beacon of democracy.
Onuigbo made the assertion while answering questions from journalists in Abuja, while speaking on the focus and determination of Tinubu to change the narrative in Nigeria’s democracy and economy with bold development initiatives and execution of legacy projects, and added that the international community has also rated Nigeria very high and projected unprecedented growth of the economy amid some national challenges.
He said: “Tinubu is an indisputable beacon of democracy. He joined NADECO in making sacrifices for Nigeria to restore democracy.
“In 1999, he was elected governor of Lagos State and he brought hope and transformation through democratic leadership and positioned the state as a mega city in the whole world.
“This is a man who worked for the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and some state governors and patiently waited till 2023 to ascend the presidency.”
Meanwhile, he also commended the President for establishing the South East Development Commission, SEDC, while he expressed hope that the Commission as a panacea to the marginalization the South East had been subjected to will address and solve a lot of developmental deficits in the region, especially, devastations caused by the three years Civil War.
However, the former lawmaker counseled the SEDC leadership to ensure prudent and judicious use of resources to provide the needed development of the region.
Therefore, he (Onuigbo) ahead of the 2027 general elections, appealed to people of the South East region, and Nigerians in general, to re-elect Tinubu for continuity of his laudable projects.
He also scored the President high on economic reforms, investment drive, tax policies, regional development and other moves to reposition the country.
