Ibom Open 2025: Over 150 golfers join race for honours

UYO – Over 150 golfers turned out Saturday to tee off in the race for honours as the 2025 Ibom Open gets underway at the prestigious 18-hole Ibom Golf Course in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The Day 1 featured mostly amateur players within the handicap of 36 to 20 with Lady Golfers mixed in various flights to play along male counterparts, gaining inspiration as they navigated the challenging terrain of the Ibom Golf Course.

The experience of the veterans and super veterans showcased great delight to watch as they swing tactfully to overcome various hazard and obstacles.

A first timer at the Ibom Golf course, Surveyor Emmanuel who described the back nine holes as “hell” however expressed delight at being part of the Ibom Open 2025, recounting the fun at the pre tee off cocktail party Friday night.

While the course was challenging for most of the beginners, scratch golfers enjoy the obstacles at Ibom Open offers to improve their game and daily challenge.

Top performance on Day 1 as at news time included Lucky Iheanacho handicap 28 with -1 and a sore of 71, Timi Rowland (33) played at par with 72 score with this year’s female rookie to watch, Blessing Michael, 36 handicap scored 72 at par.

As golfers at the tournament share social interactions with some top executives, beginners like Blessing Michael enjoyed motivation and better playing experience from her flight .

“I am handicap 36, but I learned focus and posture to transfer the right energy into my shot. I made a better performance today”, Michael stated.

Among the renowned players at Day-1 were Sen Anosike, Obong Nsima Ekere, Obong Okon Umana, P.K. Bello, Mr. George Oriesi and Engr. Akan Udom.

The golf open will continue on Sunday with more experienced amateur players to complete the leaders board.
