SOKOTO — As Muslims across Nigeria and the world celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has commended officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their unwavering dedication, courage, and sacrifice in defending the nation.

Delivering his message on Friday through the Commander of the Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Adeleke Ayannuga, who represented him at a special lunch with troops of Operation Fansar Yamma in Sokoto, the Army Chief highlighted the patriotism and resilience of personnel confronting security challenges nationwide.

“Your selfless devotion and resilience in defense of our fatherland are deeply appreciated,” he said, adding that the sacrifices of military personnel reflect the core values of Eid-El-Kabir—obedience, sacrifice, and faith.

General Oluyede linked the symbolic meaning of Eid to the duties of soldiers deployed across the country, emphasizing that progress in restoring peace is the direct result of their bravery, professionalism, and loyalty.

He paid tribute to fallen heroes, acknowledging both the visible and invisible scars borne by serving troops, and expressed solidarity with their families during the festive period.

“We honour their legacies and stand with their families during this season. Their heroism is etched in our national memory,” he said.

The COAS reiterated the Army’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens. He urged personnel to remain disciplined, united, and mission-focused, while also expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and continued support in strengthening national security efforts.

As part of the Eid celebrations, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation Fansar Yamma, Major General Ibikulke Ajose, reaffirmed the troops’ allegiance to the COAS’s leadership and philosophy of “sound administration for effective operations.”

Ajose described the COAS’s visit as morale-boosting and symbolic, inspiring troops to remain steadfast in their duties to restore peace in the North West.

“This season is not only for celebration but also for reflection on our collective sacrifices and achievements. It reminds us that we are a united and formidable force committed to the safety and well-being of our country,” he said.

He cited improved security along the Funtua-Gusau-Sokoto highway and enhanced safety in communities across Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi states as evidence of operational progress.

“The troops will not relent. The successes achieved so far have only strengthened our resolve to do even more,” he added.

As the Eid-El-Kabir festivities continue, the Army leadership encouraged soldiers and their families to celebrate with gratitude and a renewed commitment to duty and national service.
