The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State Chapter, alongside Senators Onyekachi Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North) and Ken Eze (Ebonyi Central), have commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for restoring lasting peace in the war-torn Ezza/Effium community.
The leaders praised Governor Nwifuru for his proactive steps, including the signing of a peace accord into law, the flag-off of land demarcation between the communities, and the creation of five new autonomous communities aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the area.
APC Publicity Secretary, Chidi Sinbad Ogbuatu, in a statement, hailed Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, highlighting his commitment to peace and security:
“His bold actions to restore calmness and unity between these two communities reflect his deep commitment to peace, security of lives, and properties. Governor Nwifuru’s approach has been practical, peaceful, and inclusive, showing that he is not just a leader, but a true peacemaker.”
Ogbuatu added that the demarcation of boundaries and the creation of distinct communities mark a turning point in resolving the crisis, demonstrating the Governor’s wisdom and willingness to listen and act.
“We, the APC family in Ebonyi State, stand firmly behind our Governor. His actions inspire confidence and have shown that with the right leadership, even the toughest challenges can be overcome. Ebonyi is moving forward under his watchful and caring leadership,” Ogbuatu affirmed.
Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, also praised Governor Nwifuru for his relentless peace efforts, describing him as a “peace ambassador who means well for his people.”
Nwebonyi commended the Governor’s courage, fairness, and diligence in addressing the long-standing communal war, which left a trail of destruction over the years. He urged all warring parties to embrace the state government’s peace initiative, stressing that the new law is binding on all parties involved.
He particularly appreciated the creation of autonomous communities and the demarcation of lands, which he described as “a right step in the right direction.”
Senator Ken Eze, representing Ebonyi Central, echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Nwifuru’s “courageous political will” in ending the four-year crisis.
“I wish to sincerely thank and appreciate you for your political will to end the crisis, as seen in your efforts and sacrifices, which have today enthroned lasting peace between the people of Ezza Effium and Effium who had harmoniously lived together before the unfortunate crisis.”
Senator Eze also applauded the Governor for legitimizing the peace process through a bill sent to the State House of Assembly, leading to the creation of autonomous communities and the demarcation of disputed land. He described these steps as “a verdict of an unbiased jurist aimed at forestalling future disputes.”
“This, to me, is a strong statement affirming your unwavering commitment not only to extinguish the crisis but to enthrone enduring peace in the area.”
Eze further expressed gratitude for Nwifuru’s peacebuilding efforts across the state, emphasizing that the people of Ebonyi are appreciative of his sacrifices and leadership.
“As you go about preaching and making peace across the state, it is my prayer that God will continue to grant you all the peace, wisdom, and knowledge you need to lead the state to prosperity and greater development.”
