BOMADI—The chairmanship election of Tuomo community in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, which was scheduled for February 17, 2025, has been postponed due to conflicting delegate lists and disagreements over the election venue.

In his opening address, Chief Julius Takeme, the Burutu LGA Chairman, accompanied by Hon. Julius Pondi, lawmaker representing Burutu Constituency in the House of Representatives, and Hon. Dagidi Andaye, Chairman of Bomadi LGA, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to conducting a free and credible election for the community.

Pondi urged peace and unity, stressing that the election would be conducted impartially, while Andaye emphasized that the government’s intervention was to prevent any intra-communal crises, in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda for sustainable peace.

However, confusion arose when Takeme announced that delegates must be screened according to the community’s constitution, and there was a dispute over the election venue. Initially planned for Esuku Primary School, the council chairman declared the Ekerembiri Quarters as the new venue after prolonged debates among aspirants and delegates.

After discussions, the election was rescheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2025, with a requirement for affected families to resubmit their delegate lists by noon on Tuesday.

Mr. Emizibo Samuel Fetonghan, Chairman of the Tudiyefa family in Ekerembiri Quarters, urged the council chairman to ensure transparency and fairness by compiling all delegate lists for the election. He emphasized the need for a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Olonemiowei of Tuomo Kingdom, Hon. (Justice) Freshman Daubry (rtd), advised Tuomo’s youth not to incite violence over the election, calling for peace and respect for leaders. He praised the efforts of Takeme, Andaye, and Pondi in ensuring a peaceful election process and urged the youths to support the community’s leaders working toward unity.
