It was a weekend of heartfelt tributes at Obodongwu Ozom, Aguobu Owa, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, as the remains of Lady Cordelia Ogbonne Anibeze, mother of Saturday Vanguard Editor, Onochie Anibeze, were laid to rest.

Lady Anibeze, who passed away at the age of 94, was a devout Catholic and a respected leader in numerous women’s organizations.

The community witnessed an unprecedented influx of personalities, with dignitaries praising the late Anibeze as a woman of substance.

The Enugu State Government, led by Deputy Governor Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, was in attendance, alongside a strong representation from Vanguard Media, led by Editor and Nigerian Guild of Editors President, Eze Anaba.

Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), where one of her sons, Professor Chike Anibeze, serves as Director of Academic Planning, also showed strong support.

The event drew prominent figures, including Enugu Rangers International Football Club members, traditional rulers, academics, and politicians.

Governor Peter Mba of Enugu, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Chief Uche Nnaji, and Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu all paid glowing tributes.

The Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu Catholic Diocese, Most Reverend Ernest Obodo, presided over the burial Mass with 12 other priests. In his homily, he described Lady Anibeze as a resilient woman who raised successful children despite being widowed at 36.

Professor Chike Anibeze, speaking on behalf of his siblings, praised their mother’s enduring strength, love, and devotion to her family and community.

“Her strength of character, tireless work ethic, and devotion to her community made her a figure of inspiration,” he said.

Lady Cordelia’s remarkable legacy continues through her children and the countless lives she touched with kindness and wisdom.
