The Oyo/Osun Area Command, has welcomed a delegation from the Nigeria Customs Liaison Office in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The delegation, led by Chief Superintendent of Customs O.M. Olanrewaju, was aimed to enhance collaboration and strengthen ties between the two Customs entities.

While receiving the delegation, the Comptroller, Oyo/Osun command, Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja emphasised the the importance of their work in fostering cross-border relations.

“This visit aligns perfectly with the Policy Thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs, B.A. Adeniyi, which is anchored on Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation,” he remarked.

Adelaja expressed gratitude for the delegation’s efforts, highlighting their role in supporting trade and security initiatives.

During the meeting, Adelaja assured the delegation of the command’s full support in their operations, adding that: “We are committed to working closely with you to enhance intelligence sharing. This collaboration is crucial in combating smuggling activities at our border stations.”

In his remark, Chief Superintendent Olanrewaju reciprocated the warm reception, expressing appreciation for the hospitality shown by the Oyo/Osun Command.

“We appreciate the hospitality shown to us today. Our visit aims to familiarize ourselves with the Command and its border stations, which are vital to our operations,” he said.

His emphasised on mutual understanding highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two organisations.

Olanrewaju further elaborated on the core functions of the Nigeria Customs Liaison Office, stating, “Our role includes fostering cooperation between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Republic of Benin Customs, facilitating trade, and organizing bilateral meetings. Enhancing intelligence gathering and sharing is also a key aspect of our mission.”

Olanrewaju reaffirmed his team’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in strategic areas, particularly at the Idiroko border and the borders of Kwara and Oyo States.

“Together, we can enhance security and efficiency in these critical regions,” he stated.
