Medicus Foundation gives outstanding students scholarship

The Medicus Foundation, an initiative of the Medilag Alumni Class of 2003, in continuation of its support programme presented scholarship awards to three outstanding medical students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The ceremony took place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the new Boardroom of the College.

The Provost,College of Medicine, University of Lagos,Prof.Ademola Oremosu with other members of the management team,Dr Victor Fakeye and recipients of YBC-2003 Medicus foundation scholarship Chinweuba Onoh Ebube, Ngbor Israel Barinua and Odike Ikechukwu Clement.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the Provost, Professor Ademola Oremosu, FAMedS warmly welcomed Dr. Victor Fakeye, the Coordinator of the Medicus Foundation and expressed gratitude to him and his set for their continuous support.

Dr. Fakeye congratulated the Provost on his well-deserved appointment, praising the significance transformation in the College. He explained that Medicus Foundation was born out of the desire to give back to their alma mater in appreciation of the quality education which they acquired almost at no cost.

He further explained that the Scholarship Award began in year 2020 with the first three beneficiaries, adding that due to the harsh economic situation, the cash award has been reviewed upward from #150,000 to #250,000 per beneficiary annually.

Dr. Fakeye appreciated the continued support of the Provost and its management, and expressed optimism for a long-lasting partnership.

The Director of Students’ Affairs, Professor Olufemi Fasanmade, in his remarks, commended the students for their efforts and encouraged them to be a beacon of hope to others. He emphasized the importance of showing appreciation for the opportunities provided by the country and the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

This year’s awardees, Odike Ikechukwu Clement, Israel Barinua Ngbor, and Onoh Ebube Chinweuba, joined the ranks of 11 previous beneficiaries, bringing the total number of scholars to 14.

The 2025 Medicus Foundation Scholarship Award reinforces the commitment of the Medilag Alumni Class of 2003 to supporting medical education and contribute to the development of their Alma mater.

The ceremony was witnessed by the College Secretary, Dr Olayinka Obafemi-Moses, Ag. Medical Librarian represented by Miss P. C. Anyawu, Director of Engineering Services, Dean,Faculty of Clinical Sciences; Professor Vincent Osunkalu, Dean Faculty of Dental Sciences; Professor M.O. Gbotolorun Engr. Olatunbosun Oloyede, Director of Students’ Affairs, Professor Olufemi Fasanmade, Ag. Chairman, CMUL Alumni Caretaker Committee, Dr. U.A.C. Okafor.
The Chairman of the foundation, Dr.Victor Fakeye, as a student, enjoyed Shell scholarship and he discovered it went a long way to relieve his financial burden as a student.

In appreciation of the YBC-2003’s gesture,the college Provost on behalf of the management also presented the gift to the class.
