ABUJA – The Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD) has called for a shift towards constructive, evidence-based discourse in Kogi State, urging unity and collaborative development in light of rising unsubstantiated allegations against the current administration.

The organisation emphasised the importance of accountability grounded in verifiable facts, cautioning critics against making baseless claims that could damage reputations and distract from crucial governance issues.

In a statement issued on Friday, signed by Basah Mohammed, the representative of CSATD, the organisation commended the state government for its achievements, including the approval and implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦72,500 and a one-year tax suspension for civil servants to alleviate financial burdens.

CSATD also highlighted significant infrastructural developments, such as the completion of the Zone 8 to Crusher Road project and beautification initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s aesthetics and connectivity.

The organisation lauded the government’s investment in security, noting the deployment of advanced technology and community policing strategies that have led to a notable reduction in crime rates. Additionally, substantial funding for student bursaries was acknowledged, benefiting thousands in the education sector. In agriculture, the clearing of thousands of hectares of land for farming was recognised as a measure to boost food security and stimulate economic growth.

CSATD expressed concern over recent accusations against the administration that lack credible evidence, reiterating the legal principle that the burden of proof lies with those making claims.

While upholding the right to free speech, the organisation stressed the need for legitimate concerns to be presented to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to public smear campaigns.

As the period of election-related political competition has concluded, CSATD called for all stakeholders to unite for the state’s progress, emphasising inclusivity and ethnic harmony.

The organisation urged political leaders, civil society organisations, and citizens to engage in constructive dialogue, prioritising Kogi State’s development over partisan interests for the benefit of all its inhabitants.

“Accountability is essential but should be grounded in verifiable facts. Unsubstantiated claims could unjustly damage reputations and divert attention from more pressing governance issues.

“We urge all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue that prioritises the state’s development over partisan interests. Let us channel our energies towards building a prosperous Kogi State for the benefit of all its inhabitants,” the statement concluded.
