Abba Moro

ABUJA — Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), has defended his approach to opposition in the 10th Senate, emphasizing that constructive collaboration with those in positions of authority yields better results than confrontational tactics.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja over the weekend, Moro expressed his gratitude for the “Collaborative Leadership for Good Governance” award bestowed on him by the Senate Press Corps, stating that it validated his leadership style.
He said, “Minority leadership, to me, is not about confrontation but constructive collaboration with the ruling party to ensure good governance for Nigerians.”
Moro underscored his belief in compromise as a vital tool for leadership advancement. He explained, “I believe in collaboration. Compromise is a veritable instrument in leadership. Opposition should persuade people to act in ways they may not initially consider.”
He further emphasized that, while elected on the platform of the PDP, his primary responsibility is to serve all Nigerians by working with colleagues from different political backgrounds.
“As a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I need to work with other Nigerians to advance the country’s cause rather than engage in avoidable confrontations,” he added.
Reflecting on past Senate experiences, Moro recalled that combative tactics in the 8th and 9th Senate, including impeachment attempts against the then-President, yielded no tangible results.
“There were motions and points of order raised, even to the extent of calling for the impeachment of the President. Was the President impeached? No. If certain outcomes are unrealistic within governance dynamics, there’s no point raising them,” Moro said.
He emphasized that his pragmatic approach prioritizes achieving realistic and meaningful outcomes for good governance.
“I’m a realist who believes in pursuing achievable goals that genuinely advance the cause of governance,” Moro concluded.
