The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) has adopted a practical education model aimed at producing graduates who will seamlessly integrate into Nigeria’s healthcare system, according to its Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo.
Speaking at the university’s Founders’ Day celebration on Friday, Emaimo revealed that pioneer students, who officially resumed academic activities, will graduate with dual certifications—a bachelor’s degree in their field of study and a diploma in a chosen entrepreneurial venture.
He emphasized that FUAHSE was established to produce skilled professionals who will become employers of labor, contributing to national development while upholding self-dignity, integrity, and moral excellence.
“As we mark our beginning today, we are certain that tomorrow, we will celebrate greater achievements. We will not only look back to appreciate how far we have come, but we will also continue to look forward to the future with confidence,” Emaimo stated.
The Traditional Ruler of Nike Kingdom, HRH Igwe Julius Nnaji, commended the university’s transformation from a Dental College to a full-fledged institution specializing in Allied Health Sciences.
He noted that the university will supply much-needed healthcare professionals to support the ongoing expansion of medical infrastructure in Enugu State, initiated by the state government.
“It’s a significant transformation from a Dental College to a university. Our people are encouraged, and I can now go home and sleep peacefully, knowing we have achieved something remarkable,” Igwe Nnaji said.
The Students Union Government (SUG) President, Maurice Ugwuoti, praised Prof. Emaimo’s commitment to student success, stating that his leadership has inspired students to strive for excellence.
“He has prioritized our success. We have the best faculty dedicated to our growth, and our institution is now gaining recognition. We are the hope of Enugu State’s medical tourism,” Ugwuoti remarked.
The event featured goodwill messages from prominent healthcare professionals, including:
Prof. Emmanuel Iyidobi, Medical Director, National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu
Prof. Mark Okeji, Chairman, Committee of Registrars of Health Professions
Rev. Prof. Hyginus Ezegwui, Provost, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka
Their addresses underscored the university’s pivotal role in bridging the healthcare manpower gap in Nigeria.
