Thousands empowered at finance workshop in Southern Nigeria

In a nation where financial literacy is crucial for economic growth, The Finance Workshop has emerged as a beacon of hope, equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complex world of personal and business finance. The vision of this workshop is to provide individuals with practical knowledge and essential skills to make informed financial decisions, manage their finances effectively, and plan for a secure financial future.

Since its inception in 2021, this visionary initiative has touched the lives of over 1,195 individuals in the City of Warri and beyond, providing a platform for financial education, empowerment and transformation. What began as a modest gathering of 43 enthusiastic participants in 2021 has evolved into a movement, resonating with the aspirations of a generation.

Earlier in 2024, The Finance Workshop embarked on Campus Tours across several universities in Nigeria including schools like Delta State University and  Edwin Clark University, and this was aimed at empowering students with financial literacy and arm them with financial skills for the “real world”.

This year’s edition of The Finance Workshop, themed “The Multiplier Effect – God, Growth, Goals,” was one of the largest gatherings of its kind in Southern Nigeria. With expert-led sessions with seasoned speakers like Barr. Elohor Smooth, Dr. Segun Manuel, Mrs. Zainab C. Sani-Ayo, Mrs. Theo’pistis Danjuma, and others. Engaging discussions and networking opportunities, attendees gained valuable insights into budgeting, saving, investing and financial planning.

The Finance Workshop’s founder, Jessica Ugbobor, driven by a passion for financial literacy, has crafted a unique approach that integrates faith, growth and goal-setting. This holistic methodology has yielded remarkable results, with past attendees testifying to significant improvements in their financial management and decision-making abilities.

“I want to sincerely appreciate the Finance Workshop team for putting up something like that, it was of great value to me and I learnt a lot. I also got clarity for my brand and the talk on Debt management, was right on time. Thank you!”, said Miss Ayeta Ejiro.

It’s important to highlight again that this is a passion project with a vision to equip over 20 million Africans with financial literacy tools which will foster better decision making in individual societies, thereby positively affecting economic growth.

Sponsorships and partnerships are crucial for projects like The Finance Workshop, and this year’s edition was heavily supported by these organizations: Uzou Tech Hub, Mega 89.1 FM, Unique International School, Women Beyond Boundaries Foundation, Zadell Concept, ErnestMore Lighting, 4T5, and Cleverminds Educational Foundation.

The workshop’s impact extends beyond individual success stories. By promoting financial inclusion and literacy, it contributes meaningfully to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 8, aimed at poverty alleviation and economic growth.

As Nigeria strives to achieve 95% financial inclusion, initiatives like The Finance Workshop are crucial. By empowering young people with financial knowledge, we can tap into their potential, foster economic growth and build a brighter future.
