A lawmaker representing Ondo East/West in the Federal House of Representatives, Mr. Abiola Makinde, has urged Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper especially at this season.
Makinde made this call recently when he was distributing relief materials from the federal government which he facilitated through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for flood victims in the constituency.
Recall that Makinde, had promised the flood victims that he would ensure they get relief materials that could cushion the effect of the flood which had led to the loss of some of their personal belongings in October.
According to him, the distribution of the items ranging from foodstuffs, sewing machines, grinding machines among others was witnessed by the officials of NEMA and the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency.
Makinde, who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Human Right, also informed that the already documented victims of flood were the actual beneficiaries of the relief materials.
His words: “This is the first batch of the relief materials, stating that more items such as bags of cement, roofing sheets, mattresses and other relief materials are still being expected.
“While this distribution of relief materials is being done, flooding areas already identified are being worked on. Example of this is Itanla in Ondo town.
“Other areas are going to be worked on before we enter another rainy season to forestall reoccurrence”, he said.
