The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Oguntala, FNSE, has emphasized the importance of codes and standards for engineering professionals.

She disclosed this recently at the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) conference held at the Naval Air Force Conference Centre in Abuja.

She highlighted NSE’s previous collaborations with SON and called for strengthened partnership to advance quality standards in Nigeria’s engineering and construction sectors.

The conference, themed, ‘Adherence to Standard Practices: The Bedrock of Sustainable Development in the Building Sector’ was part of the global World Quality Week celebration, which promotes quality standards.

In her goodwill message, Oguntala praised SON’s initiative and described the theme as timely. “We have collaborated extensively with SON,” she noted, stressing that NSE recognizes the essential role of standards and codes for engineering professionals and their importance for safe and effective practices.

She also mentioned NSE’s ongoing progress toward ISO certification, underscoring NSE’s commitment to achieving international standards and best practices.

“The Nigerian Society of Engineers remains dedicated to promoting adherence to standards, advancing safe, reliable, and sustainable practices across Nigeria’s engineering landscape”, she said.

Meanwhile, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) President Engr. Prof. S.Z. Abubakar, FNSE, who was represented by the Vice President, Engr Olu Oguduyile, FNSE, in his remark affirmed that adherence to standard practices is fundamental for sustainable development in the building sector.
