The city of Lagos has welcomed a powerful new voice in its already vibrant media ecosystem with the official launch of Base 101.1 FM, a next-generation radio station committed to redefining the boundaries of radio broadcasting in Nigeria and across West Africa.

The station is the brainchild of Adebowale Ewedemi, a widely respected media entrepreneur and broadcast strategist with a two-decade track record of creating and transforming FM stations across the country. Known for his extraordinary ability in radio innovation, Ewedemi’s latest creation is being celebrated as a bold, timely response to the demands of a fast-evolving digital media audience.

“Base FM is more than just a frequency,” said Ewedemi during the unveiling ceremony held at the station’s state-of-the-art studios in Lekki. “It’s a platform for cultural expression, social conversation, and next-generation storytelling. We are building a station where original content, community voice, and technological innovation converge.” The station was designed and built by Wale Ewedemi for the Baseline Group, where he serves as MD and CEO.

With previous successes in Lagos with 92.3 Inspiration FM, 96.9 Cool FM Abuja, 99.9 Kiss FM in Abuja and Lagos, Blaze FM in Anambra State, Today FM in Port Hacourt and many more across the country, Ewedemi has consistently demonstrated an exceptional capacity to build and scale radio stations with lasting national impact. His original contributions to the media industry have influenced policy, trained generations of on-air talent, and introduced bold programming formats that continue to resonate with audiences across Nigeria.

Base FM’s programming slate includes politically charged talk shows, original music showcases, interactive social forums, and hyper-local content aimed at amplifying the voices of young Nigerians.

Industry watchers are calling the launch a defining moment in Nigerian media. Ewedemi’s leadership is viewed as a model of sustained excellence, aligning with international standards for extraordinary professionals whose careers demonstrate a consistent record of national and industry influence.

As part of its launch, Base FM is also integrating cross-platform content strategy, merging FM broadcasting with live video, podcasting, social media, and audience analytics to deliver content where and how the audience wants it. This vision places the station firmly at the intersection of traditional radio and immersive digital experiences.

“There’s a global renaissance in audio,” Ewedemi added. “But Africa must define its own voice. Base FM is our response to that call—a creative lab, a training ground, and a catalyst for original African narratives.”

Already, the station has sparked interest from international development partners, global media stakeholders, and Nigerian tech and entertainment brands seeking forward-facing partnerships. With Lagos as its base and national expansion on the horizon, Base FM is positioning itself as a continental influencer in the future of African broadcasting.
