The Executive members of Eko Club have announced plans for the commemoration of its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of dedication to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State.
Dr. Ade Dosunmu, former president and chairman of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, at a media briefing held in Bode Thomas, Surulere Local Goverment Area, on Thursday, highlighted its achievements, with a focus on its pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the culture of Lagos.
Dosunmu, reflected on the club’s contributions to the development of Lagos over the years, “50 years of unity, camaraderie, and a shared vision.”
Dosunmu enumerated some of the club’s journey from its humble beginnings to its influential role in the social and cultural fabric of the city.
He lauded Eko Club’s efforts in promoting social, cultural, and intellectual growth, adding that its dynamic programs have nurtured talents, celebrated the city’s diversity, and passed down Lagos’ traditions to future generations.
Dosunmu also highlighted the club’s philanthropic efforts, including scholarships for underprivileged children and healthcare support.
These initiatives, he noted, have brought hope and opportunities to many, reinforcing the club’s commitment to community service.
As Eko Club looks ahead to the next 50 years, Dosunmu urged members to remain committed to unity, diversity, and progress.
“Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact, not just within our club, but across the Lagos community,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Eko Club President, Razaak Amodu, expressed gratitude to the members for their dedication to the club’s growth and success.
According to Amodu, “We are proud to stand today as a club that has integrated culture, tradition, professionalism, and civic conduct.”
Recognizing the visionary leadership of the club’s founding fathers and elders, Amodu noted that while Eko Club remains non-political, “it has grown into a respected pressure group advocating for progressive change in society.”
Lagi6s State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, forner Governor of the State, Babatunde Fashola, Oba of Lagos and the Grand Patron of the Club, Rilwanu Akiolu, among other dignitaries are expected to grace the ocassions
The 50th-anniversary celebrations will include a variety of events, including: a Jumat Service at the Lagos Central Mosque on September 6, a Church Service on September 8, a lecture and documentary screening on September 11, and a health walk on September 14.
Activities will culminate with a cultural day, a special event with the president, and the grand finale.
