The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is to institute an award for the best football club media teams in the league at the end of every season.

The Chief Operating Officer, COO, of the League, Davidson Owumi dropped the hint at the inaugural seminar organised by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL for 20 Media Directors of Nigeria Premier League teams held in Makurdi the Benue state capital.

He explained that the initiative would help encourage the media teams of the respective clubs to do more in projecting their teams and football in the country.

According to him: “The intention is to create room for the emergence of the best media team in every season with a reward that would encourage them to do more.”

He stated that the essence of the seminar was to sensitize the media officers on their role in turning around the trajectory of Nigerian football.

Owumi said: “We have kept this aspect for too long. We need to start a new journey in our professional football in changing the narrative and turning the trajectory around. The driving force is to move our football forward. There must be a concerted effort to make our brand work.

“As media officers, you are a warehouse of information for your clubs, you ought to market the stars you have. You have the key to unlock potential.

“You must also know the framework of the league because most club chairmen do not have the time to read the rules. Always read the rules and be abreast with it and also help educate your managers or club chairmen because they are always busy and might not have the time to read it.”

Present at the seminar were Media Directors from the 20 Premier League teams across the country.
