Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, an engineer, has made significant strides in youth development since his appointment as the Honourable Minister of State for Youth Development in October 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

With a vision rooted in inclusivity and engagement, Olawande’s leadership has profoundly impacted the lives of young Nigerians nationwide.

One of his standout achievements is empowering over 10,000 youths through various skills development and mentorship programs.

These initiatives have not only enhanced the skills and capabilities of young Nigerians but have also provided them with the necessary tools to thrive in a competitive environment.

The Minister introduced the Youth Innovation Hub which supports 500 startups and has created 2,000 jobs.

This hub serves as a critical platform for young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas, gain mentorship, and access essential resources, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Youth Skills Acquisition Program, another notable initiative, has trained and supported 5,000 youths in various fields.

This program addresses the skills gap among Nigerian youth, equipping them with practical skills that enhance their employability and self-sufficiency.

Understanding the importance of digital engagement, Olawande developed the ‘Youth Connect’ app.

This platform connects young people with resources, opportunities, and mentorship, facilitating their personal and professional growth.

Additionally, the Youth Innovation Challenge encourages young innovators to develop solutions to social and economic challenges, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills among Nigerian youth.

He also established the Youth Entrepreneurship Fund, providing young entrepreneurs with access to capital necessary for starting and expanding their businesses.

This fund aims to remove financial barriers, enabling young Nigerians to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations.

The Minister’s grassroots approach is evident in initiatives like the Corpreneur Support Initiative (CSI) and the Grassroots Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (G-YESS). CSI offers financial support to corps members trained in various skills, helping them establish small businesses while G-YESS targets young entrepreneurs in local communities, ensuring they receive the support needed to earn a decent income and improve their economic livelihoods.

Recognizing the importance of global partnerships, Olawande has collaborated with several international organizations.

Notably, he partnered the European Union to launch the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program in Nigeria and worked with the African Union to develop the Continental Youth Development Framework. His collaboration with the United Nations focuses on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals related to youth empowerment.

Olawande’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment has earned him national and international recognition.

He received the ‘Young Leader Award’ at the 2022 Africa Leadership Awards and was honored with the ‘Youth Development Champion’ award by the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

Additionally, he was listed among the ‘Top 100 Most Influential Young Nigerians’ by the Nigerian Youth Magazine.

In just one year, Engr. Ayodele Olawande Wisdom has made an indelible mark as the Honourable Minister of State for Youth Development.

Through his innovative programs, inclusive leadership, and unwavering dedication, he has empowered thousands of young Nigerians, fostering a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
