Liverpool will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield as they continue to push for the English Premier League title.

An exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United ended their push for a trophy quadruple in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.

The German manager, who has kept his team on track despite a deep injury crisis, brushed off any idea of a negative psychological impact after the 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford.

“In general, the team is in an outstanding situation in the moment,” he said. “That we got through all of these different, difficult situations is absolutely exceptional.”

Liverpool trail league leaders Arsenal on goal difference and will hope the Gunners and City cancel each other out in Manchester.

Brighton have drawn their past two matches at Anfield but they have not won consecutive league games since September and Liverpool will be confident they have the firepower to win as their injury crisis eases.

Liverpool have had injury concerns all season and the international break has not been helpful in that regard. Andy Robertson picked up a fresh problem whilst playing for Scotland and there is still a very faint chance he makes the squad, but a start seems unlikely.

Darwin Nunez did not travel for Uruguay’s fixtures because of an injury against Manchester United but he should start against Brighton. Curtis Jones is also back in training. Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, Ben Doak, Joel Matip and Stefan Bajcetic.

For Brighton, after managing to get through the international break without any fresh injury concerns, they are expected to be without former Liverpool man James Milner and talented attacker Joao Pedro, which is a blow for Roberto De Zerbi.

They will be joining Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma on the sidelines for the trip to Anfield, where Evan Ferguson could play in a deeper role behind Danny Welbeck.
