Nigerian scientist gets int'l award

Nigerian scientist and Diaspora Officer of the Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) USA, Dr. Viola Nicholas-Okpara, has been honoured with an award of recognition for her valuable contributions as an Ambassador of Elsevier Solution in Africa for over two years.

Nicholas-Okpara had the opportunity to expand her horizons and gained invaluable experience and social capital as Elsevier African Ambassador. 

In the course of her appointment, she helped Research Scientists and Lecturers to build excellent academic and professional skill sets in research. She trained, mentored new scientists, and gave them access to core research tools.

The Nigerian representative at Elsevier, trained researchers and lecturers from different universities and research institutes in Africa on Elsevier core research solution tools (Scopus, Science Direct, Mendeley, SciVal, etc.). The training they received gave them access to an easy and excellent way to do research and have their research outputs published in high-impact journals.

Commending her, the Customer Success Manager (CSM)/Higher Education & Research Consultant, Khalid Shalan said: “I have been privileged to lead and work with ambassadors spanning the African continent. Dr. Viola (Nicholas-Okpara) has been our ambassador in Nigeria for the past three years. I have personally learnt a lot from her research expertise and professionalism.”

The award was given at Elsevier Cairo Egypt on December 22, 2023.
