IVC: MSSN Lagos conducts medical tests, distributes drugs to Epe residents

The MSSN Lagos IVC medical team disbursing drugs to the beneficiaries of the Medical Outreach event during the just-concluded 113th IVC at Noforija Town Hall, Epe.

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit has conducted a series of medical tests, as well as distribution of drugs to residents of Epe community in the state. 

The activity tagged, “Medical Outreach,” was conducted by the clinic department of the Unit, as part of programmes marking the formal closing of the just-concluded 113th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) at its Human Capital Development Center (HCDC) Noforija, Epe.

The event which was held at Noforija Town Hall, Epe featured free medical tests as HIV, blood sugar, Hepatitis, high blood pressure and urinalisis.

Speaking on the Medical Outreach, the Head of Clinic Department, Dr. Akinyemi Biliamin noted that the various tests conducted by the medical team include random blood sugar check,  urinalysis, blood pressure measurement.

According to him, about 100 residents of the  community benefited from the health initiative of the Muslim students.

He said, the beneficiaries were also availed hours of consultation for them to interact wth the medical team in order to ascertain their health status.

Akinyemi said the medical outreach was intended to make Epe feel the positive impact of the MSSN Lagos and its members in the community.

He added that the objectives of the outreach were to help the community dwellers medically, educate them about their health status and avail them the opportunity to interact with medical experts on their health issues.

Akinyemi described the turn out of the beneficiaries as encouraging, as he advised Muslims to take optimum care of the their health and never assume for themselves on issues of their health.

He said, “The Medical Outreach and public lecture organized by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit,  held at Noforija Hall in Epe, were instrumental in providing vital healthcare services and disseminating essential medical knowledge within the community.

“People get registered then have their BP check, then lab test ( Blood sugar and urinalysis) , then consultation by the doctor and move to pharmacy for drug collection. Amongst the people attended to, some her hypertensive ( High BP) and diabetic. Free drugs were given to everyone.

“Amongst the people in attendance was Chief imam of Noforija central mosque. The people from the community appreciated the exercise and wished it can be done again,” he said. 

Dr. Zafaran Adeniyi’s lecture was a highlight of the event, encompassing crucial topics relevant to community ideology and well-being.

Adeniyi noted that the success of the event not only addressed immediate health concerns, but also laid a foundation for continued community health initiatives and education.

The Amir (President) MSSN Lagos, Kamoldeen Abiona noted that commitment to community welfare and public health has driven organisation to organize the health initiative.

He said, “As we embark on a crucial medical outreach mission to the Epe community, our primary motive is rooted in the MSSN’s overarching mission to contribute to the well-being of communities, and we believe that access to healthcare is a fundamental right that every individual should enjoy.

“Epe, like many other communities, faces its share of health challenges, ranging from preventable diseases to insufficient access to medical resources. Recognizing this, our medical outreach aims to bridge these gaps by offering free health screenings to identify potential health issues early on. 

“Through these tests, we hope to provide valuable insights into the health status of the residents, enabling them to take proactive measures for their well-being.”

“We hope that this medical outreach will not only address immediate health needs but also foster a lasting relationship between MSSN Lagos and the Epe community, contributing to the healthcare and the well-being of its residents,” he said.
