No fewer than 100 Lagos residents benefited from free eye cataract surgeries organised by Rotary Club Lagos Island in partnership with Indo Eye Care Hospital.
The two-day event took place at Indo Eye Care Foundation, Eye Care Centre, Airport Road, Lagos.
Speakking during the opening day of the surgery camp, Mr Anant Sabat, President, Rotary Club of Lagos Island, thanked all sponsors such as IHS Towers, Springfield Agro, KGM Industries, Shiv Lila Polymer and many Rotarians who contributed generously for a great cause.
According to him, “Over 1,200 cataract surgeries are scheduled to be performed in this drive where screening are done at Geeta Ashram, Lekki and Indo Eye Care, Airport Road since the last three months.
“Rotary Club of Lagos Island in partnership with Geeta Ashram has done over 5,000 surgeries in the last seven years in Lagos and Kano where underprivileged patients benefitted.”
Sabat highlighted some important projects of Rotary Club of Lagos Island to include tree plantation, basic education literacy drive, free distribution of sanitary pads at adopted schools and blood donation camps at various corporate houses like IHS Towers, Airtel etc.
Also speaking, Assistant Governor, Fatima Maiyaki, said the aim of Rotary Club is to touch lives as much as possible, adding that the Club’s free cartaract surgery is one of its projects for the year,
She said: “The economy impact of this project on the society is that it will change thier lives, because ordinary, when you have cataract, you can’t do your work properly as it affects lives in a very negative way.”
