Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency residents demand rerun from INEC

The residents of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to carry out a rerun of the House of Representatives (HOR) primary elections for aspirants under the All Progressive Congress (APC) as confined on them by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2010.

A statement by Akinwale Oladapo in Abuja, said the aspirants under APC are eager to conduct the primary elections in order to bestow on the residents of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency their constitutional rights.

The statement read: “On Friday, May 27th, the day of the HOR primary elections, Hassan Giwa, one of the aspirants running under the APC HOR in Lagelu/Ak inyele Federal Constituency cited a breach of the Electoral Act when one of the four aspirants, Hon. Lafioye Akinmoyede staged a kangaroo election where he declared himself the winner.

“It was referred to as a Kangaroo election because the primary election was supposed to be among the 4 aspirants and at an agreed venue with the presence of an authorized INEC official.

“While Hassan Giwa and the other 2 aspirants, Olasupo Philips David and Adeyemo Modinat Temitope staged a parallel election in protest where each of them scored 31 votes with the presence of INEC and party leaders, Chief Segun Ajuwon, Chief Ojo Lanre, Alhaji Safejo, Hon. Remi Ade bayo and Hon. Sikiru Adebayo, the residents of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency are calling for a rerun election before the time extension by INEC to carry out primary elections elapses.

Hassan Giwa along with the 2 aspirants thanked the party leaders for their support and a hitch free election.

“When reporters contacted Hassan Giwa to request for the date of the primary rerun elections, they were told that they’re awaiting INEC to do the needful.

The citizens of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal constituency are demanding that INEC act quic.
