COVID 19 or not, 2021 was a remarkable year in many ways with the good the bad, and the ugly, as they say.  It was a year of change, euphoria, and much excitement, and of the persons who shook things up,  a few women were in the mix.

Kafilat Araloye, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe and Miriam Olusanya

On the first of January, 2021 when her appointment as MD/CEO Fidelity Bank was announced,  Nneka Onyali-Ikpe set the tone for the women who now run the banking end of the financial sector.

She was later to be joined by Kafilat Araloye (Lotus Bank) in June and Miriam Olusanya (Gtbank) in July, bringing the number of female bank MDs to a record eight.

Tiwa Savage

The songstress was the most trending individual in the Nigerian cyberspace for all the wrong reasons. For weeks, the Somebody’s Son crooner was allegedly blackmailed over a sex tape she recorded with an erstwhile lover. The said tape was finally released, to the annoyance of many who saw it as an anti-climax.

Between July and October 2021, lovers of entertainment were permanently glued to their small screens, seduced by the female participants of BBNAIJA

Of these, it was the “beautiful, hot-bodied, smart and intelligent” Nengi that led the pack and kept the viewers glued.

AKA Eniola Salami, the beautiful veteran stole the heart of the Nigerian movie-going public forever with King of Boys 2, released in August.

Queen Naomi Ogunwusi

The gorgeous Ife queen apparently got on the wrong side of her king, resulting in a tiff, also in December.  Palace sources maintain a stiff upper lip, swearing no such event ever happened.  The controversy persists.

Mo Abudu

The Media entrepreneur broke new ground in   November, when Harvard University added the study of her organisation, Ebony Life, to its MBA curriculum.

According to her, over 1,000 MBA students will study the company as a compulsory class for first-year students.

Sofiyat Akinlabi

Her love for a youth corper almost cost her uniform. Trending photographs and videos showed the young soldier pecking her beau on the cheek after he proposed to her; a public act apparently unbecoming of a soldier.  She has since been forgiven, so all is well that ends well.

Esther Ajayi

In September, popular cleric Rev Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi threw open the door of her new church auditorium in Lagos Island.  The architectural masterpiece of the Love of Christ Generation church has become a Mecca of sorts, drawing very distinguished guests including former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
