The tragic COVID-19 pandemic has altered our lives in unforeseen ways, with the addition of face masks and hand sanitizers to our daily accessories and the absence of social gatherings as we knew them, being some of the most visible signs of the drastic changes.

However, one of the most significant shifts has been the widespread adoption of remote work, with millions of people globally being forced to work from home (WFH) due to lockdowns and other safety measures enforced. The abrupt transition to remote work occurred at a time when most businesses and individuals were not adequately prepared, leading to various challenges and opportunities. 

Chief among the challenges presented by the pandemic is the need to ensure productivity and efficiency while employees are working remotely. This challenge, when combined with the declining profit margins and increasing economic uncertainty, has led to sweeping job losses in the global labour market.

Hence, the globalization of the labour market.

QA, in particular, plays a huge role in ascertaining the reliability, functionality and security of software applications, which are critical to their success. 

Besides, the shift from traditional to remote work environment not only has its inherent benefits for software engineering and quality assurance professionals as it affords them greater flexibility and work-life balance but it also presents tremendous benefits to businesses. Reduced overhead costs associated with office spaces, access to a global talent pool and improved employee retention are some of the notable advantages. This goes to underscore the win-win nature of remote work for employers and employees alike.
