By Chioma Onuegbu

IKPA- COMMUNITY leaders of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, have called on their sons and daughters appointed into positions of authority to be committed to using their positions to touch lives and contribute to the general development of the area.

Udom Emmanuel

They made the call at the inauguration of mini water projects and an ultra-modern administrative complex, ‘Udom Emmanuel IWADU House at Use Abat (Ibiono Western) and Ikpa communities respectively, built by one of the indigenes, Mr. Ini  Ememobong, a legal practitioner and Publicity secretary of the People’s Democratic  Party, PDP.

A day to remember – Paramount ruler

Speaking at Ikpa during the commissioning of the IWADU House, Paramount ruler, HRM Edidem (Dr) Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang, said: “Today is a day that will not be forgotten in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. I want to use this opportunity to tell politicians to emulate this kind gesture.  We appreciate Ini Ememobong today for his good representation. When the time comes, we will call him back to honour him.

“Also I want to use this opportunity to salute the state governor because he is a listening governor and a promise keeper. Past governors of Akwa Ibom made promises to Ibiono people, but they failed to fulfill their promises.  I remember when Governor Udom Emmanuel came for campaign in 2014; I told him that he should do whatever he can do for Ibiono.

“Governor Udom Emmanuel promised that he will construct Ibiaku-Ikot  Udom road within 100 days in office and he fulfilled his promise. So I am happy to identify with his government. And about his re-election, this community has endorsed him and I support their stance,” the monarch asserted.

We commend Ememobong-  Ibiono Ibom Union president-general

President-General of the socio-cultural organisation, Ibiono Ibom Welfare Development Union, IWADU, Obong Effiong Inyang, said the union could not thank Ememobong enough for assisting them to carry out one of the projects  of the  organisation that had been delayed due to paucity of funds.

“On July, 29, 2017, we laid the foundation, molded blocks and appealed to worthy sons and daughters of Ibiono Ibom to contribute to the building of a befitting IWADU house and a secretariat. Little contributions have been received and still hamstrung by finances, the main project is still at the very early stages of development,” he said.
